Full secondary-school scholarships for young people whose examination results have earned them a place they could not otherwise take up, awarded with Stand Up Shout Out.
02About this project
A strong national examination result opens the door to a good secondary school. The cost of that school closes it again for families who cannot pay. The foundation’s scholarship programme exists for exactly that gap.
The scholarships are awarded together with Stand Up Shout Out, to young people already being mentored through SUSO’s programmes, and they are full scholarships, decided on the strength of KCPE results, of talent, and of what the student has already put back into their community. They are awarded for who a young person is becoming, not only for a mark on a paper.
In 2022 three young women from Kibra and Dagoretti, all of them from SUSO’s Own Your Crown programme for women and girls’ leadership, won full scholarships on their KCPE results and enrolled in excellent Kenyan high schools: Sarah, Hope and Fantasia. They reported for Form 1 that May.
The foundation and SUSO say the scholarships carry more than an education: character and leadership development, and a commitment to walk with each young leader the whole way. The aim is a strong, resilient community, built by people who were raised inside it and chose to stay and lift it.
